The Nielsen Company engaged us for a multi-year engagement spanning Tableau development, data engineering, and data warehousing. The work supported mobile performance analytics for major carriers including Sprint (now T-Mobile), AT&T, Verizon, and U.S. Cellular Corporation.
What We Built
We developed Tableau dashboards tracking mobile performance for hundreds of thousands of end users, re-architected data pipelines capable of handling trillions of records, and optimized SQL queries that transformed reporting speed from days to seconds.
Engineering Highlights
SQL optimization. Before our involvement, Nielsen waited 4-5 days for data extracts to complete. We rewrote and optimized the SQL layer to enable on-demand data updates—transforming a weekly batch process into a real-time capability.
Pipeline re-architecture. We modernized the data architecture to handle trillion-record datasets efficiently. This involved working closely with product managers and executives to balance performance requirements with infrastructure constraints.
Dashboard development. We built Tableau dashboards that served executives, marketing teams, analysts, and engineers across Nielsen’s carrier clients. The visualizations powered decisions around cell tower expansions, user experience improvements, and data-driven marketing campaigns.
Team training. We led SQL training for DBA team leads, covering optimization techniques and best practices that the team continues to use.
Business Impact
The data products we built equipped client teams with actionable insights that drove real business decisions. Nielsen featured these mobile performance metrics in marketing campaigns and press releases, reinforcing their leadership position in the space.
